Privacy policy

Glowstone is a Mac app that works on files in a folder you choose. There is no Glowstone account, no Glowstone server holding your notes, and no analytics following you around the app.

What stays on your Mac

Your workspace is plain Markdown in a folder you pick. Meeting transcripts, notes, routines and your dictation vocabulary are files in that folder. Recorded meeting audio is never written to disk: it is transcribed as it is captured and discarded. What is kept is the text, in a note you can read, edit or delete like any other.

Dictation runs entirely on your machine with a speech model downloaded once. What you say is not uploaded anywhere and works with no connection at all.

What leaves your Mac, and when

Glowstone does not talk to a model itself. It runs the AI agent you have installed (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another), and that agent sends what it needs to its own provider under that provider's policy and your account with them. When you ask your agent to read a note, that note's content reaches that provider. Choosing the agent is choosing where your work goes.

Connectors are your CLI's connectors, not ours: adding one configures the agent you already use, and it works the same in your terminal.

What Glowstone itself collects

Nothing about you. There is no telemetry, no usage tracking, no crash reporting service and no identifier tied to you. The app checks a public URL for a newer version, which involves a normal web request to GitHub; no personal data is sent with it.

A local database on your Mac holds what the app needs to work: your list of conversations, layout, and recent dictations, and never leaves the machine.

This website

Separate from the app, and the only place where anything is counted. This site uses Vercel Web Analytics to record page views, the country a visit came from, the site that referred it, and which of the download buttons was clicked. It sets no cookies and does not follow you to other sites. Visits are counted using a hash that is regenerated every day; raw IP addresses are not stored, and none of it identifies you. It exists to answer one question: is anybody finding this page.

Downloads themselves are served by GitHub, which keeps its own logs of requests to its servers under GitHub's privacy statement.

Permissions the app asks for

• Microphone: for dictation and for your side of a meeting.
• Audio recording: to capture what your Mac is playing during a meeting, so the other side is transcribed too.
• Accessibility: to type dictated text into whichever app you are using, and to notice when you correct a word so it can be remembered.
• Notifications: to tell you a thread finished while you were looking elsewhere.

Each is asked for when it is first needed and can be revoked in System Settings. Without them the related feature stops; nothing else does.

Recording other people

Meeting transcription captures the audio of everyone in the call. Laws about recording conversations differ by country and by state, and consent is often required. Telling the people you are with is both the decent thing and, in many places, the legal one.

Deleting things

Delete the note and the transcript is gone; delete the folder and the workspace is gone. Nothing survives elsewhere because there is nowhere else.
