# Glowstone

> Glowstone is a second brain for Mac that fills itself. Meetings, notes and
> decisions are kept as plain Markdown files on the user's own machine,

## What it does

- **Durable memory.** Workspace knowledge is stored as normal Markdown files in
  folders the user controls, and connects projects, people, decisions and
  documents in a knowledge graph.
- **Meetings.** It records the microphone and the system audio separately, so
  the transcript is split between what you said and what the other side said.
  The transcript builds up live, a few seconds behind the conversation, and is
  saved in the vault's meetings folder as a note the agent can work from.
- **Live meeting questions.** While a meeting is being recorded, the tab at the
  top of the screen shows the live transcript and a chat. The agent answers
  with what has been said so far plus what is already in the user's notes, and
  does not write to the vault unless asked.
- **Dictation.** Whisper runs on the user's own Mac and types into any app,
  usually in about a second. It understands 99 languages and detects the
  language on its own. It learns the names and jargon of the user's work, so it
  stops mis-writing them, and never replaces an ordinary word with one of them.
- **Routines.** The agent can be scheduled to start the conversation itself: a
  morning plan, a Friday review, a nudge before a meeting.
- **Gestures.** Two keys at once, from any app, to bring the workspace up,
  capture the screen into a new chat, or start dictating.

## Product facts

- Transcription and dictation run locally. Audio never leaves the Mac.
- The vault is a plain folder: it works with Obsidian and any text editor, and
  it can be backed up by putting it inside iCloud, Drive or Dropbox.
- It works with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode and Kilo Code, and with any
  other command-line agent the user adds by the command that starts it.
  Connectors are the user's own CLI's MCP servers, so they also work in their
  terminal.
- It is free, and bring-your-own-agent: it needs one of those agents installed
  and signed in, on the user's own plan (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or free
  models / own keys with OpenCode and Kilo Code). Glowstone takes no cut.
- The current public build supports macOS 11 or newer. Windows is not available yet.
- There is no sync between machines and no server: the workspace is a folder.
- Glowstone is a workspace around AI agents, not a replacement chat model.
